Have to agree with Cary. His over the top mugging was too much for me. The sisters were magic, though, as was “Theodore Rosevelt.” Raymond Massey scared the heck out of me!

Excellent business about the whiskey sour! It’s funny that the movie is so beloved, while I’ve read in more than one place that Cary Grant never liked it and thought the humor was too broad.

Yes! Grant considered Arsenic and Old Lace his least favourite film. He thought his performance was “dreadful” and said he thought he’d be better off playing one of the aunts! Who knows what to really believe? I personally thought he was very suited to the role which is similar to the character he played in His Girl Friday with Rosalind Russell. Both characters had quick wits! Or maybe that’s the whiskey sour talking!
